What we achieved in 2008/09

2008/09 was another excellent year of achievement for Centrepoint tackling youth homelessness. We worked with more homeless young people than ever before, to greater effect; influenced national policy on key priorities for these young people including family, skills, housing and income; and secured more donors than ever before. In 2009, we also celebrated 40 years of helping homeless young people have a future.
  • We worked directly with almost 1800 young people in our accommodation-related services. Over half of them were under 20 years old.
  • Over a third (38%) of the young people Centrepoint worked with over the past year were known to have slept rough.
  • Of the 59% of young people who responded to our satisfaction survey; 87% were satisfied or very satisfied with our services.
  • Three-quarters (77%) of young people made a 'positive move' from Centrepoint services and went on to appropriate accommodation in a planned and structured way, including those helped to move into the private, rented sector through our rent deposit guarantee scheme.
  • During the year, we supported 226 young people to get started in training or education, and 101 to gain employment. At the end of the year 436 young people using our services were in education, training or work.
  • Our health team worked with 1053 young people over the year, an increase of 21% compared to the previous year.
