What we achieved in 2007/08

In 2007/08, another excellent year of achievement tackling youth homelessness, we: worked with more homeless young people than ever before, to greater effect; continued to incorporate fully the charity Stopover; led the government's national youth homelessness scheme; and secured more donors than ever before.
  • We worked directly with over 1600 young people in our accommodation-related services. Over half of them were under 20 years old.
  • Nearly 50% said they had slept rough at some point before arriving at Centrepoint.
  • Some 76% of young people living with us when we took the snap-shot responded to our satisfaction survey; 86% were satisfied or very satisfied with our services.
  • Almost two-thirds of young people made a 'positive move' from Centrepoint services and went on to appropriate accommodation in a planned and structured way, including those helped to move into the private, rented sector through our rent deposit guarantee scheme.
  • One in four of the young people who came to live at Centrepoint during 2007/08 had no qualifications. During the year, we helped 282 young people start training or education, and 126 to gain employment. At the end of the year almost half of the young people using our services were in education, training or work.
  • Our health team worked with 834 young people over the year, which was a 95% increase on the previous year.
  • In March 2006 we took over Stopover Limited, a charity providing direct services to single young homeless people in South East London, enabling us to  help over 1,800 young people each year.
