Rough sleepers

Almost half of the young people that come to Centrepoint say they have slept rough at some point in their lives.

Sleeping out on the streets or in unsuitable B&B accommodation takes its toll on a young person’s physical and mental health. Young people who sleep on the streets often are  ot registered with a doctor; they may have very little awareness of local health and care services or about living healthily.

A significant proportion of those who have slept rough suffer from mental and physical health problems, or they misuse drugs, including alcohol. Our health team works withpeople from all of our services, offering support and counselling on a one-to-one basis, and referring them to external agencies and primary health care services.
