Centrepoint young people ‘SpeakOut’
Young people receiving support from Centrepoint recently had their say on what they want from Centrepoint services and how their needs could be better met. Directly addressing senior management, for an immediate response, young people raised their suggestions, feedback and ideas on how services could better meet their needs.
Following earlier group sessions taking on board views from a wide range of young in Centrepoint services, the first ever ‘SpeakOut’ event was attended by 13 young people who put forward their views and the views of their peers. Young people who could not be there to ‘SpeakOut’ filmed their suggestions, comments and questions, which were screened at the event to ensure more young people could get their point across.
Eleven members of Centrepoint staff, including the Director of London services, were at the event to take direct questions from young people and to explain how their suggestions would be taken forward.
Jordan, 19, who was at the event said:
“The key was that it got straight to the point and everything was related to improving the service. I felt it was a positive way to raise things that were needing to be raised, like maintenance and key-workers. It’ll be a good scenario in the future and I’m looking to see what changes happen.”
Clare Norton, Centrepoint’s regional director of services said:
“The ‘SpeakOut’ went extremely well and we had really constructive feedback from young people. Some suggestions are straight forward to put in place, others trickier, but we'll now work to make as much change as possible over the coming few months so that our services are effectively meeting the needs of the young people in our care”.
