Centrepoint young person trapezes to the top with circus skills
From juggling balls to spinning plates, a homeless young person receiving support from Centrepoint gets to grips with a new set of skills; circus skills!
As part of Centrepoint’s learning support offer, specialist circus skills company Cirque Nova are building young people’s confidence, developing their fitness and flexibility, and also having a lot of fun learning new and unique skills through a programme of circus skills workshops. Being filmed for Channel 4’s Three Minute Wonder series, the young people will get to grips with everything from walking on stilts to acrobatic flips.
Jean-Marie Akkerman, Director of Cirque Nova said:“Learning circus skills is a metaphor for life itself. Mastering complex physical skills gives young people confidence that they can tackle wider challenges in life.”
Omari, 19, is in his eleventh week of circus skills training. He said:
“At first I was a little bit hesitant. When I thought of the word ‘circus’ I imagined having pies thrown in my face! But it is completely different- it’s brilliant. It’s more about acrobatics, flips and handstands and requires a lot of skill. It’s been brilliant for coordination and flexibility and such a good way for me to get back into, and improve, fitness.”
