A New Year, a new start

You can still help Centrepoint raise £252,900 to help over 800 homeless young people make a fresh start.

Will you help us give someone like Dominique a lasting home – and a better future?

Most of us have celebrated Christmas at home with our loved ones. During the festive period, Centrepoint has provided a home and much needed support to over 800 homeless young people.

Each year, over half of the young people we see have slept rough on dangerous streets. Most have fled their family homes because of violence and abuse. Sadly, just when they are at their most vulnerable, the authorities are unable to help. Over half the councils in the UK make no plans for housing 16 to 17 year olds. Instead, frightened young people are left to face the danger of life on the streets. And the consequences can be tragic.

With your help, Centrepoint can offer a homeless young person a warm bed, hot food and the support they need to make a fresh start. All you need to do is click below and make a donation.

Yes, I want to give a vulnerable young person a new start

You can help us turn homeless young people’s lives around, bringing them out of danger and into a safe, lasting home.

Your gift will give a homeless young person the shelter, warmth and protection they desperately need. With a hot shower, they’ll be able to wash away the dirt from the streets. With nutritious food, they can build their strength. And with our long-term support, a homeless young person can make a fresh start. We’ll help them enrol at college, find employment and learn the life-skills we so often take for granted – like budgeting and cooking.

So as you can see, Christmas was just the start of giving a homeless young person the best gift of all – the chance to live independently and the emotional support they need to overcome their troubled past.

Please, make your New Years Resolution to do something truly special – send your gift today. Whatever you can give will help make a difference.

Centrepoint’s work doesn’t stop at Christmas. We’re here for homeless young people all year round.

Dominique’s story

Dominique’s childhood was one of neglect, violence and fear. The bruises from her father’s repeated beatings may have faded. But Dominique’s face still bears the scars from when her mother burnt her with a cigarette lighter when she was just six years old.

When Dominique finally summoned the courage to escape at the age of 16 – the local children’s home was unable to take her in. They considered her too old. So Dominique approached the council. But they couldn’t help either.

No longer a child, but not yet considered an adult, Dominique slipped through the gap in the system. And she was left with the prospect of sleeping rough on the dangerous streets.

Thankfully Dominique found her way to Centrepoint.

She is now living in our safe accommodation and studying for her GCSEs. With our support, Dominiques beginning to put her painful past behind her. And she can look forward to a much better future, ‘I might train to be a social worker for kids like me. I know I can relate to them.’
