| Centrepoint responds to rough sleeping strategy |
|
Centrepoint responds to the government’s latest discussion paper into rough sleeping which aims to reduce rough sleeping to as close to zero as possible and outlines measures to improve opportunities for former rough sleepers – moving people permanently from the streets, focusing on employment, skills and health. With 48% of the young people Centrepoint works with having experienced rough sleeping prior to arriving at our services, Centrepoint welcomes the government’s focus on ending rough sleeping and acknowledges the proposed benefits to the lives of those currently sleeping rough. However, we are concerned that the proposal does not accurately account for the numbers of ‘hidden homeless’ sleeping rough and therefore does not fully take into account the specific and individual issues faced by young people who still experience rough sleeping every year. |
