Equality and diversity
This involves actively protecting the young people who live with us, paid staff and volunteers from sexual, racist, sexist, homophobic and any other type of abuse or harassment. We work hard to ensure equality of opportunity in our recruitment and selection, and in our our approach to learning and career development. Such commitment is reflected too in the way we design the homes where young people live, and other workplaces.
We monitor all job applications to ensure that we attract and select applicants from all sections of the community. We also monitor the effectiveness of our advertising.
At all levels, we seek to eliminate all forms of discrimination and promote equality as we fulfil our duties as an employer, a charity, a company, and a registered social landlord. We keep in view the following legislation:
- Sex Discrimination Act (1975)
- The Race Relations Act (1976)
- Disability Discrimination Act (1995)
- Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2003
- Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003
- Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
- Equality Act (2006)
- Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007
We have a clear strategy on these matters and explicit plans actively to promote anti-discriminatory practice in all areas of our charity enterprise. This includes recruiting and selecting high quality candidates regardless of gender, race, age, religion (or beliefs) or lack of these, gender identity, ethnic origin, class, sexuality, nationality, appearance, unrelated criminal activities, disability, responsibility for dependants, being HIV positive or with AIDS, part time or shift workers, or any other matter which causes a person to be treated with injustice.
