Hollyoaks tackles youth homelessness

Hollyoaks teen George has been facing an uncertain future - living in a squat, sometimes on the streets, and wondering who around him he can trust.

This is the hard-hitting storyline the Channel 4 drama has been running in 2012, helped by Centrepoint, the UK's leading charity supporting homeless young people.

On Thursday 1 March 2012, the cast of Hollyoaks spent a chilly night sleeping out on the Hollyoaks set to raise awareness and vital funds for Centrepoint.

Watch the night's shenanigans in this film:

You can still support your favourite Hollyoaks character by donating to their Just Giving page here. Help them get to £10,000 for Centrepoint.

Centrepoint also ran a competition offering one lucky Hollyoaks fan a tour of the set!!! The winner was announced as Laura Anne Moore on 14 March.

Laura said: 'I'm really excited and I know this sounds a bit naff, but it really is a dream come true!

'The current storyline on Hollyoaks with characters George and Phoebe gives an incite to what some young people have to live with thinking hey have no one to turn to. So when Hollyoaks raised money for Centrepoint I felt I had to do my bit too by making the donation.

'I've watched Hollyoaks for the past five years every single day and I'm so excited to get to see the set! I am a trainee teacher and, when I found out I had won, I was in the staff room and started screaming! I had said to my friends that if I won they'd come with me, but never thought I'd actually win! Amazing!

George Madison is just a teenage, but he's found himself homeless, without the support of his family and unsure of where to turn.

he's just like many of the 1,200 young people Centrepoint supports every year with a home; getting into education, training or employment; health services and life skills like cooking and budgeting.

Here's more about george and some of the friends that help him:

Hollyoaks George

George

Age: 16
Favourite music: Rihanna and Lady Gaga
Favourite films: High School Musical
Hero: Paris Hilton
George loves fashion - he never has a hair out of place and likes to wear the latest look. He's gay and talks openly about his crushes, but never really talks about his true feelings. He has a wicked sense of humour and dreams about being famous, but he's insecure. And while he loves his mum and has a good relationship with her, he finds himself in a difficult and desperate situation.

Hollyoaks Phoebe

Phoebe

Age: 15
Phoebe is streetwise and seems older than her years. Her mum is a prostitute, so she's had to be tough and look out for herself. She's slept rough and met George, someone she trusts, in a squat.

Hollyoaks Callum

Callum

Age: 16
Favourite music: James Blake, Skream, Magnetic Man
Favourite TV: Likes The Wire, but would rather read
Favoutite author: Friedrich Nietzsche, Chuck Palahniuk
Callum is a man of few words, intense and effortlessly intelligent. He's the opposite of George, but they strike up a deep friendship.
