Former world boxing champion Ricky Hatton visited our flagship service in Manchester to mark the beginning of his support for Centrepoint.

Ricky, who has been an advocate and supporter of homeless charities for several years, met our fantastic teams who are supporting thousands of young people across the city every year, and heard first-hand from young people we support. He was also able to listen in to some of the calls taken by our Helpline team in Manchester.

Reflecting on the visit, Ricky said his own experience of hitting rock bottom has helped him sympathise with the young people Centrepoint supports:

“Even though I was not homeless, the worst part of my life is when I fell out with my family and I was suicidal. So, I get it. Sometimes it’s just the way it works out, to be honest with you. I’ve been through similar things from a mental health point of view, so I sympathise for these people more than most.”
